Viable System Model

In contrast to the efficiency criteria of corporate organization theory, which are primarily economic, the focus of the „Viable System Model“ is the viability of an enterprise. The point is not only maximizing profit or minimizing costs, but rather it is essential that the enterprise remains sustainable.

Preserving this sustainability of the enterprise is first and foremost a question of the organizational structure and thereafter a question of the strategies made possible by that structure. These structures must be configured in such a way that the enterprise can continue to adapt to constantly changing conditions, the nature of which is rarely predictable. Organizations must be capable of continuously balancing conflicting interests, demands and goals.

"The more methodically human beings proceed,

the more effectively they encounter coincidence."

Friedrich Dürrenmatt
